International DT-466 C & P Series

The International DT466C and DT466P are both part of the long-running DT466 engine family, but they represent different generations with major changes in fuel delivery, electronics, and emissions technology. The DT466C, commonly referred to as the “mechanical” DT466, was produced primarily through the late 1980s and early 1990s. These engines used fully mechanical fuel systems, most notably the Bosch MW or Bosch P7100 injection pumps depending on year and configuration. Because of their simplicity, the C-series engines are known for durability, ease of maintenance, and strong aftermarket support. They required very little electronics and are often favored in agricultural, vocational, and off-road applications where reliability and straightforward repairs are priorities. The DT466P came much later and was part of International’s MaxxForce-era emissions platform introduced in the late 2000s. Unlike the mechanical C-series, the P-series used advanced electronic controls, HEUI fuel injection, EGR emissions systems, variable geometry turbocharging, and more sophisticated engine management.
